Firearm Consignment Services

Sell it for more, with none of the hassle or risk

Have a firearm you’re ready to part with? Instead of dealing with strangers off Facebook or Craigslist, let K3 Armory handle it for you. We’ll research its value, photograph and list it professionally, market it across our website and multiple online marketplaces, and manage all the buyer paperwork — background checks, transfers, and shipping — from start to finish. You track every step through your own private online portal, and get a check or store credit once it sells.

We take professional photos and write detailed description for every item. Consignment guns are posted for sale online on k3armory.com, GunBroker, Virginia Gun Trader, GunsAmerica, ArmsList, TacSwap, Infinite Armory and many more. Plus they are shown to walk-in customers at our Midlothian, Virginia location too.

You get full visibility the whole way through. Every consignment comes with private access to our Consignment Firearms Tracker online portal — see your item’s listing details, pricing research, everywhere it’s posted for sale, and real-time status, all in one place.

Why Sell on Consignment Instead of Privately?

You’ll likely net more, even after our commission. A private sale often means settling for whatever a buyer off Facebook or GunBroker is willing to offer, with no professional marketing behind it. Selling to a pawn shop or another dealer outright means accepting wholesale value, since they need room to resell at a profit. Consignment lists your firearm at full retail exposure across our website and multiple marketplaces — in many cases, sellers net more this way than they would from either alternative, even after our commission comes out.

It keeps you clear of “engaged in the business” concerns. Federal law requires a license for anyone “engaged in the business” of dealing firearms — and ATF’s rules mean that selling multiple firearms over time, even as what feels like ordinary hobby activity, can start to look like unlicensed dealing in the eyes of regulators. When you consign with K3 Armory, we’re the licensed dealer making the sale, not you — so you can part with items from your collection without that risk hanging over you. This is general information, not legal advice — if you’re planning to sell a large collection or sell firearms regularly, it’s worth understanding where that line is.

Is Consignment Right for You?

Consignment works best when you’re a committed seller, not just curious what your firearm might fetch. Researching, photographing, and listing an item takes real time and effort on our end, so we reserve that effort for sellers who are ready to move forward — this isn’t the service for “let’s see what I’m offered” or still deciding whether to sell.

We price every firearm based on actual market data — recent comparable sales, not what you originally paid for it or what you’d like to get for it. That also means: a firearm that’s never been fired is still legally a used firearm the moment it’s been purchased and gone through a background check (Form 4473) — it will not sell at new retail price, regardless of condition.

We’ll always give you an honest, data-backed number. We won’t inflate a listing price just to win your business, and an inflated price just means your item sits unsold.

Because of the work involved, we generally don’t provide value estimates ahead of an actual consignment commitment. If your situation is a little different, contact us and we’re happy to discuss it.

How It Works

Download and complete our Consignment Agreement PDF before your visit — an online version is coming soon so you’ll eventually be able to fill it out right on this page.

Schedule an appointment to drop off your firearm along with any accessories, magazines, the original box, and manual you’d like included, plus your completed agreement. We’ll sign it into our FFL bound book for official record-keeping.

We’ll research current market value using comparable sales data and recommend a list price based on how quickly you’d like to sell.

Professional photos and a detailed description go up on k3armory.com, GunBroker, Virginia Gun Trader, GunsAmerica, ArmsList, TacSwap, Infinite Armory, and it’s shown to walk-in customers at our Chesterfield location too. You’ll get access to your own consignment tracker portal, where you can see your item’s pricing research, every place it’s listed, and its current status at any time.

When it sells to an out-of-state buyer, we coordinate with their FFL dealer and ship it out. If it sells locally, we schedule the appointment and run the required background check ourselves — buyers pay no transfer fee on consignment items.

Once the sale is final, we deduct the consignment fee and any applicable costs, then cut you a check or issue store credit for the rest — your payout details are also tracked in your portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

We generally don’t provide value estimates ahead of an actual consignment commitment — proper research takes real time, and we reserve that effort for sellers who are ready to move forward. If your situation is a bit different, reach out and we can discuss it.

Often, yes. A private buyer typically expects a discount off retail since there’s no dealer, marketing, or paperwork involved on their end. A pawn shop or another dealer buying it outright will offer wholesale, since they need margin to resell it themselves. Consignment gets your item full retail exposure across multiple channels, so even with our commission taken out, sellers frequently net more than they would from either of those routes — though the exact outcome always depends on the specific firearm and market demand.

Federal law defines a “dealer” as anyone engaged in the business of buying and selling firearms with the intent to profit through repeated transactions — and ATF’s current rules make clear that this can apply to someone who doesn’t think of themselves as a dealer at all, simply based on how often they sell. Consigning through us sidesteps the question entirely, since K3 Armory, a licensed FFL, is the one legally making the sale. This is general information, not a legal opinion about your specific situation — if you’re offloading a large collection or sell somewhat regularly, it’s worth understanding ATF’s guidance for yourself.

It’s your own private, secure link where you can see everything about your consigned item in one place: our pricing research, every marketplace it’s listed on, and its current status — whether it’s being prepped, actively listed, sold, or paid out. No need to call or email to check in; it’s updated as things change.

15% of the selling price for newer/standard firearms, or 20% for vintage, collectible, or high-value items that need extra research to price accurately. Any marketplace or credit card processing fees from a specific sale channel are passed through in addition to the commission.

It depends on the item, condition, and price point — we’ll give you our honest read on how quickly a given piece is likely to move when we appraise it.

Yes — consigned items stay with us for a minimum of 120 days so we have a fair chance to find a buyer after the time we invest in researching, photographing, and listing it. After that initial period, the agreement continues until either of us ends it; if you’d like your item back before then, we just ask for 30 days’ notice.

Yes, with two things to plan for. First, since your firearm is in our FFL bound book while it’s consigned, Virginia and federal law require you to pass a background check to take it back — the same as if you were buying it new. We charge a reduced $10 transfer fee for this (normally $40). Second, there’s a return fee of up to $25 per item to cover the appraisal, photography, and listing work already done, plus any marketplace fees we’ve already paid to advertise it.

You’d have 180 days to resolve the issue. If it’s not resolved in that window, the firearm is considered abandoned and becomes K3 Armory’s property.

By business check (pickup or mail) or store credit, once the sale is final. If a buyer pays by debit or credit card, our payment processor’s fraud protection terms may require us to hold funds for up to 120 days before we can release your payment — this is standard practice to guard against chargebacks, not something specific to your sale.

Basic wipe-down cleaning and a functional check are included. Anything beyond that — detailed cleaning, repairs, or gunsmithing — is available for an additional agreed-upon fee, not part of the standard consignment service. We function check all firearms but we do NOT test fire any firearms.

No — we don’t charge buyers our standard transfer fee on consignment purchases.

The firearm itself, plus any accessories, magazines, holsters, the original box, and manual you’d like included in the sale — items sell better as a complete package.

Yes — we’ve had great success selling larger collections for repeat customers and are happy to talk through the details for a multi-item consignment.
