Outbound Firearm Shipping
and FFL Transfers
Ship a Firearm Legally, Without the Headache
Sold a firearm to someone out of town or out of state? K3 Armory handles the packing, paperwork, and legal shipment to your buyer’s local FFL dealer — the right way.
If you’ve privately sold a firearm — or are gifting one to a family member or friend — to someone out of town or out of state, you can’t just box it up and drop it at the post office. Firearms must be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer, with proper ATF record keeping on both ends. Dropping your firearm off with a local FFL like K3 Armory is exactly the right way to do it, and we make the process simple.
Bring us the firearm, and we handle everything else: logging it into our ATF records, coordinating with the receiving dealer, professional packing with all materials included, insured shipping with signature confirmation, and tracking info you can share with your buyer.

How the Outbound process works
Use our scheduling page and look for the OUTBOUND SHIPPING option. Before you come, print and complete our Outbound Shipping Service form (PDF)— it’s also your receipt and proof of drop-off. In the “Recipient/Destination” section, enter your buyer’s contact information — the receiving FFL dealer needs it to know who to contact when the package arrives.
Bring the firearm and your completed form to K3 Armory. We’ll log the firearm into our ATF record book at drop-off, as required by law.
We professionally pack your firearm (all materials included), weigh the package, and get you an estimate for shipping and insurance.
Federal rules require a copy of the receiving dealer’s valid FFL license before we can ship. Your buyer should have already made arrangements with their local dealer — they can provide the license copy to you, or their dealer can email it to us directly.
We’ll invoice you for the service fee plus shipping and insurance costs, payable online through our website. Payment is collected prior to shipment.
Once payment is received, your firearm typically ships the same business day or the next. It’s logged out of our records to the receiving dealer at shipment, per ATF requirements.
We provide tracking information you can share with your buyer and their FFL dealer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Federal law and carrier policies make self-shipping risky for private sellers. Handguns cannot be mailed via USPS by non-licensees at all, and carriers like UPS and FedEx generally only accept firearms from licensed dealers. Shipping through an FFL ensures the transfer is documented properly on both ends and your buyer completes their background check at pickup.
Your buyer arranges the transfer with a licensed FFL dealer near them, provides you (or us) a copy of that dealer’s FFL license, and completes their Form 4473 and background check when they pick up the firearm from their dealer.
It depends on the package weight, dimensions, destination, and declared value for insurance. We’ll pack and weigh your firearm at drop-off and give you an exact quote before anything ships — you pay the $40 service fee plus the actual shipping and insurance costs, nothing padded.
No, but we recommend it. You’ll choose your coverage when we quote the shipment, and every package ships with signature-required delivery regardless.
Yes — book through our scheduling page using the OUTBOUND SHIPPING option, and bring your completed shipping form with you.
Depending on size and destination we may be able to combine items into one shipment to save on costs. Additional firearms in the same shipment are only $10 additional.
