INBOUND FFL TRANSFERS
FOR ONLINE FIREARM PURCHASES

Bought a Gun Online?
We’ll Get It in Your Hands — Legally and Hassle-Free

Yes — firearms and guns can be legally purchased online! But they cannot be shipped directly to your home. Federal law requires that firearms be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) dealer in your state — like K3 Armory — who then completes the required paperwork and background check and “transfers” the firearm to you. That’s an Inbound FFL Transfer, and it’s our most popular service.

Whether you scored a deal on GunBroker, ordered from a big online retailer, won an auction, bought from a distant gun store, or are receiving a firearm from an out-of-state seller, K3 Armory serves as your local receiving dealer in Midlothian, VA — serving Chesterfield, Richmond, Chester, Powhatan, Moseley, Amelia Court House, and the greater Richmond area.

New to buying guns online? It’s safe, legal, and often saves you real money — but the process can be confusing the first time. Read our guide: How to Buy a Gun Online.

How Inbound Transfers work

Read our Inbound FFL Transfer FAQs. Agree to our FFL Transfer Terms and Conditions. Check our updated “assault firearm” and 15+ round magazine transfer policy to make sure your item is one we can accept. Questions? Contact us before ordering — not after.

During checkout with most online sellers, you’ll be asked to choose a local FFL dealer as the ship-to destination. Search by name or zip code (23112) and select K3 Armory in Midlothian, VA. If the seller doesn’t have us on file, no problem — contact us and we’ll send them a copy of our FFL license directly.

Your firearm is shipped to K3 Armory, where we log it into our ATF records upon arrival, as required by federal law. As soon as your firearm arrives and is ready for pickup, we’ll notify you.

After you’ve been notified that your firearm is ready to pick up, prepay your Inbound FFL Transfer service fee online. Cash is also accepted at the time of your transfer appointment. This service fee is due regardless of background check results.

Next schedule your transfer appointment online — we’re a home-based FFL and operate by appointment only, which means no waiting in line behind a crowded gun counter.

Arrive at your scheduled time with valid government-issued photo ID showing your current Virginia address (issued at least 30 days before your appointment). See our Inbound Transfer FAQs for more information. You’ll complete the federal ATF Form 4473 and Virginia SP-65 required forms, and we’ll run your Virginia State Police (VSP) background check — most results come back in minutes.

Once your paperwork is complete, your background check is approved, and your transfer fee is paid, the firearm is officially transferred to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since firearms can’t be shipped directly to your home, all online firearm purchases must ship to one of your local Federal Firearm Licensee (FFL) Dealers like K3 Armory. Once they have received it, you will visit their location to complete the necessary paperwork and background checks. Then the firearm “transferred” to you via an FFL Transfer.

We reserve the right to refuse acceptance of any transfer firearm, in accordance with any Federal, State and Local laws. We will never hesitate to refuse a transfer or report a suspected criminal activity to the proper law enforcement agencies. We do not inspect or test fire any firearms that are being transferred. Therefore, we reserve the right to refuse and/or return any firearms at the buyer/sellers expense that were misrepresented by the seller.

Federal law requires that you can only arrange a transfer for yourself. You may NOT arrange a transfer for someone else. If someone else is having a firearm transferred, they must contact us to initiate the transfer themselves.

• For handguns, pistols and lower receivers:
We only provide our transfer services to buyers that are at least 21 years old AND legal Virginia residents (or active duty military personnel that are PCS to a base or station in Virginia).

• For long guns, rifles and shotguns:

We reserve the right to refuse acceptance of any transfer firearm, in accordance with any Federal, State and Local laws. We will never hesitate to refuse a transfer or report a suspected criminal activity to the proper law enforcement agencies.

FFL Transfers are by appointment only. Please do not call or email us for an appointment time. ONCE YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO, you can visit our online scheduling page to book your FFL Transfer appointment.

Appointments take place at our home office in Chesterfield, VA. We are located near Hwy 360/Hull Street and Hwy 288. They are booked in 30 min time slots. Please arrive on time.

Once you arrive at K3 Armory for your appointment time, we will begin the transfer process. The firearm will be “transferred” to you via an FFL Transfer. A transfer occurs by you filling out an ATF Form 4473 and satisfying the background check requirements.

Form 4473 requires information about the identity of the buyer and it requires answers to a series of questions to ensure that you are not a prohibited person. Upon completing the Form 4473, K3 Armory will conduct a federal background and criminal history check on you through the ATF’s National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS). Anyone buying a gun online or locally must pass a NICS check before an FFL Dealer can transfer possession of the firearm to them.

Due to Federal regulations, guns are not returnable. Please inspect your gun thoroughly before completing the transfer. If the gun received by K3 Armory is incorrect or damaged in shipment, do not take possession of it. Contact your Seller immediately to have the problem resolved. After transfer, any warranty or repair work must be coordinated directly with the gun manufacturer.

Yes, of course! All firearm purchases require a federally mandated background check to be completed by the FFL Dealer at the time the firearm is picked up.

There are zero exceptions to this rule. Don’t even ask –  you will be asked to leave and blacklisted from our store.

Refer to the ATF’s list of Prohibited Persons to confirm you are eligible to purchase and/or possess a firearm. Virginia residents can take the Virginia State Police Firearms Purchase Eligibility Test to find if they meet the requirements to purchase/possess a firearm in Virginia.

Residents of other States should consult their specific State/Local laws before making your purchase or scheduling a transfer appointment.

Important restrictions

  • Under 21? As of July 1, 2026, Virginia law prohibits handgun and assault firearm purchases by anyone under 21.
  • Out-of-state residents: Federal law allows us to transfer long guns only to non-Virginia residents.
