NFA Gun Trust Services

Attorney-drafted, 50-state compliant, delivered to your inbox in minutes

If you’re planning to purchase a suppressor or short-barreled rifle, you have two options for how to register it: in your own name (as an “individual”), or through an National Firearms Act (NFA) gun trust. A gun trust is a legal entity that owns your NFA items on your behalf, and it’s the option most buyers choose — it lets you share access to your NFA items with trusted family members or friends (your co-trustees), simplifies passing those items on to a beneficiary down the road, and avoids some of the headaches of individual ownership.

K3 Armory offers attorney-drafted NFA gun trusts through our partner provider. You don’t need to hire an attorney or navigate confusing legal templates yourself.

  • Share legal possession. Anyone you name as a co-trustee — your spouse, adult children, trusted friends — can legally possess and use the NFA items in your trust. If you register as an individual, only you can ever be in possession of the item.
  • Protect your family’s future. Your trust names successors who inherit your NFA items without confusing ATF paperwork, transfer headaches, or additional costs for your family after you’re gone. It’s a way to build a collection that easily and legally passes down through generations.
  • One trust covers everything. A single trust can hold an unlimited number of NFA items. Set it up once and use it for every suppressor, SBR, and future NFA purchase you ever make.
  • Flexible for life’s changes. Your trust is revocable and includes amendments, so you can add or remove co-trustees as life changes — no need to start over.
  • Free signature notarizing of your trust. Save the trip across town to a notary provider – and the $10 fee! K3 Armory includes free notary service with all NFA Gun Trusts purchased directly through our website.

How it works

We make the process to purchase, customize and make any future revisions to ATF approved gun trusts as easy as possible.

Purchase your NFA gun trust through K3 Armory.

Your order will be processed –  usually within an hour after purchase. You will then receive an email with a personalized link to the website that you’ll use to customize your Gun Trust with your personal information.

Complete a short form with your details and the names of any co-trustees or beneficiaries you’d like included. You will be able to come back to your personalized link at any time in the future to view or make changes to your trust – for no additional charge.

Your personalized, state-specific trust is reviewed for compliance and emailed to you as a PDF, typically within minutes.

Follow the included instructions to sign your trust in front of a notary. K3 Armory includes FREE notary service with every NFA Gun Trust purchase (a $10 value). Local shipping centers (UPS and FedEx locations), banks, government/law enforcement offices and legal service providers offer this service as well for a $10 fee.

Bring your completed trust to K3 Armory (or any FFL/SOT dealer) to register your suppressor, SBR, or other NFA item under the trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — you can register NFA items as an individual instead. A trust is optional, but it’s the more popular choice because it lets multiple people (your co-trustees) legally possess the item, and it makes passing the item to a beneficiary later much simpler than individual ownership does.

The main reasons people choose a trust: it lets other people you name (a spouse, family member, or friend) legally use the item without you being present; it avoids the extra CLEO notification/certification step some individual applications require; and it makes transferring the item to a beneficiary after your death simpler, since it doesn’t have to go through probate the way personal property does.

Once you complete your purchase, your order will be processed and you will be emailed a personalized link to complete the trust setup process – usually within a few minutes to a few hours. Once you complete and submit your personal information there, your trust is typically reviewed and emailed to you as a PDF within a few minutes.

No. The trust is already attorney-drafted and reviewed by the trust specialist for compliance before it’s sent to you.

Yes, most states require your trust to be signed in front of a notary (some also require witnesses). Your document comes with instructions specific to your state’s requirements. K3 Armory includes FREE notary services with every trust purchase (a $10 value).

Yes — you can name unlimited co-trustees (people who can also legally possess the NFA items) and beneficiaries (who the items pass to after your death).

Modifications are free for the life of your trust. Reach out and we’ll help you get it updated.

If you already have a trust from another provider, you’re welcome to use it for your purchase with us. We can only guarantee support and modifications for trusts purchased through K3 Armory.

Trust vs. individual: which should you choose?

Individual registration for NFA items means no one else can ever legally possess your item, even your spouse at home while you’re traveling, and your family faces complicated and costly transfer paperwork when you pass away. For only $60, most buyers find that a gun trust is the safe choice. Still not sure? Just ask and we’ll give you the honest pros and cons for your situation.
